Local groups and projects receive Area Committee funds

Newlands/Auldburn Area Committee met last week with City Councillors joined by Community Council representatives Cathcart & District’s Flora Wardlaw and Robert McElroy of Newlands & Auldhouse.

David Proctor,South Glasgow Area Commander for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue gave an update on:

  • local resources deployed and the approach to minimising the effects of fire and other emergencies;
  • the Newlands/ Auldburn ward Tactical Assessments compared for 2010/11 and 2011/12;
  • local activities in relation to community safety, home fire safety visits, open days and partnership working.

Inspector Paul Quinn of Strathclyde Police reported on community policing and performance in tackling crime across Newlands/ Auldburn ward.

Applications for funding were awarded from the Area Budget:

We discussed changes to community planning structures in Glasgow, bringing our current Local Community Planning Partnership and Area Committee into a merged structure of South Sector Community Planning Partnership and Newlands/Auldburn Area Partnership.

Rosh Campbell of Glasgow’s Regeneration Agency ended the meeting with the Glasgow 2014 Prosperous Legacy DVD, detailing employment opportunities for citizens as a result of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
